Where Is The Evidence?

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

In addition to the many things on our very full plates, is the laborious task of housework. It can take a huge chunk of time out of our very busy days. Washing, drying, and putting dishes away. Cleaning windows and mirrors. Washing, drying, folding, and putting laundry away. Changing bed linen and making up beds. Restocking personal items like tissues and toilet paper. Etc., etc., etc. The list of chores can seem endless.

My idea of a good cleaning day was to have EVERYTHING done and looking superb. That meant having a home free of dust, smudge marks, and anything unsightly. EVERYTHING was put in its place or out of sight. When I say everything, I mean E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G, to include any evidence of how the work got done. Boy did that create a false belief of my efforts. Lol!

Household tasks can’t be eliminated, but you can do something to make sure there’s no misunderstanding about what’s required to get it all done. Here’s what to do. Leave evidence! Leave toilet seats up and the cleaning suds in the toilet bowls. Leave all room doors open so that it’s clear you were there. Leave out all cleaning products and tools: the bleach, bathroom scrubbing foam, and glass cleaner; the laundry detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets; the cleaning bucket, cleaning cloths and scrub brushes; and the duster, broom, and dustpan. Scatter them all throughout the house. Leave it. LEAVE IT! Leave it. Leave the washed and dried laundry on the bed. Leave it. Leave the vacuum cleaner out and plugged in. Leave it. Leave out as much evidence as possible, until residents of your household see it, then put it all away. Lol!

All kidding aside, seeing evidence of admirable behavior and kindness towards others is also important. There is a lot of evidence of the good things people do. There is something truly wrong, when the bad stuff is more what you read and hear about than the good stuff. The media sensationalizes it to boost their ratings and feeds it to the public. You’ll start to believe that’s all there is. It will desensitize you and you’ll even start to think it’s the norm and to be expected. Let me tell you, it’s not the norm. It’s not to be expected, and it’s not all there is. That is why I showcase evidence of the good that is happening in our communities at the Acts of Kindness Awards.
